Success at Bath Philosothon 2025
On 12th February some of our Year 9 and 10 students took part in the Bath Philosothon, a philosophy event hosted this year by Hayesfield Girls’ School. The Philosothon is an annual event where Bath schools compete by participating in a range of discussion activities to explore philosophical ideas.
Despite being the youngest team there (other schools brought students across Years 9-13) our students did brilliantly and I was so incredibly proud to see them flex their philosophical muscles in such good company, and to share ideas with other thinkers from across the city.
The topics of the discussions given to the students included: “Is it possible to belong to more than one faith?” “Is age discrimination for medical treatment justifiable?” “Can inequality ever be considered fair, if the least well off benefit from it?” and “Is eternal life the unique selling point of religions?”
The evening culminated in the presentation of awards, and I was thrilled to discover that three of our students had won in various categories. Tristan L won the Leadership award for Year 9. Max W won the Creativity award, also for Year 9. Benjamin N won the Best Philosopher award for Year 10, repeating his success last year.
All of our students who came along acquitted themselves fantastically well and I am very proud to have been there with them.
