Poems for Imbolc at St Mark’s
St Mark’s School in Larkhall recently ran a poetry competition as part of its Spiritual Reflections initiative. Students in Key Stage 3 found out about the Pagan festival of Imbolc which took place on February 2nd and celebrates the coming of the first signs of spring. They were then invited to write their own poems to reflect on the change from winter to spring, the return of longer days, warmer weather and the burgeoning of life that comes with it.
The students responded brilliantly and submitted a large number of evocative and thoughtful poems. Five winners were chosen, each of whom won a small sweet treat, some seeds to plant, either at home or in school, with a philosophical book for the grand prize winner.
St Mark’s will be continuing this series in the summer term with another look into a lesser-known religious festival and a creative competition to follow. Well done to the poets, and bring on the spring!
