Year 5 Taster Day
We were delighted to welcome pupils from Swainswick Primary, Wick Primary and Batheaston Primary on Tuesday 9th June for a special Taster Day.
Our visiting pupils were very busy finding out what life as a pupil at St Mark’s is like whilst learning new skills and hopefully having fun!
Here are just some of the activities for the day:
Geography – Pupils made a tectonic jigsaw of the world, finding out why earthquakes happen and how we can prepare for them by making an ‘Eathquake kit’ and taking part in an ‘Earthquake drill’!
Orienteering – Pupils found clues and hidden artefacts using maps and compass skills.
English – Pupils made up stories using rusty old keys as our inspiration, creating ‘story cubes’ – a fantastic set of dice which inspired tales of epic adventure.
Science – Pupils learnt to light and use the bunsen burner safely, then carried out an experiment to find out which clear solution had a hidden surprise in it!
Textiles – Pupils explored different surface decorating techniques in textiles. They decorated pencil cases using their initials and the theme of animals for inspiration.
